In May 2016 I ventured forth to the island of Bali to partake in the 2016 World InterHash event. InterHash is a world wide hash house harriers event which is held in every even numbered year. Participants come from all corners of the world to 'run' in some of the hardest terrain that can be found in the area. My trail runs will be posted under the Hash menu item.
I departed Ottawa on 10 May to arrive in Toronto for the11 May, 01:50 flight from Toronto to Hong Kong and then connections to Bali.
While in Bali I stayed at the Swiss Belresort in Sanur Beach. A very relaxing hotel with a modest but nourishing and tasteful buffet breakfast. The hotel was one block off of the beach but with easy access. A path that I took at least once a day! Lunch and supper, except on actual hashing days, were taken at various restaurants along the beach. I never had a bad meal at any of the restaurants and was happy to recommend several to others. The menus were generally Indonesian/Thai with some generic European dishes thrown in. I stuck with the Indonesian/Thai themes.
The weather during the two weeks was sunny, hot and humid. On the first night there was sudden thunder storm which lasted about 15 to 20 minutes but during that time the sky opened up and it just poured rain. That was the only rain during the week.
On my last day I finally got to see the Agung Volcano or at least the top of it. The previous days it had been completely cloud covered.
I did not do any touring, except for the hash trails, on this trip so I stuck mainly to the city, laze around the hotel pool and beach walks. It was a general relaxing holiday until the days of the runs. More on the hash runs in the hash menu.
I departed Bali on 25 May and because of flight connections had to take a hotel in Hong Kong. What a difference in price between Bali and Hong Kong. I had a fish and chip supper at the pub in the hotel and that meal cost me as much as a week's supper on the beach in Bali!
I finally arrived back home at midnight 26 May. It was a long two week holiday and while I enjoyed the time away I was happy to be back home once again.
