Today is going to be an interesting day.

Because of the weather forecast I headed off to the allotment garden to do a bit of work.  I try and do just a little bit every day and that way I can keep ahead of the weeds.  I had wanted to take some photos of the potatoes sprouting  through the straw but, the camera battery was dead.  I was debating on waiting until tomorrow but because the potatoes were well advanced I decided to cover them with straw and just wait until they come through this lot.

Because the beans I had previously planted were drowned because of the amount of rain we got in May I found some seeds from 2011 and decided to give them a try.  All my other seeds are somewhere under a tarp in the backyard and not accessible.  I will have to wait until the pile of dirt is gone before I can get at anything there.

I was happily working away doing a bit of weeding after the potatoes were covered and the beans planted when it started to rain.  Big heavy drops so I decided to head off home.  Well this lot of rain only last less than an hour.

Got a call from our son Don and he is going to pick up some ribs from the Kemptville rib-fest and take them home.  We will then be joining him for supper there.  A takeout of ribs from the rib-fest.

Today's tornado warning.

Has it really been this long?

I can not believe it has been 6 months since I posted anything in here.  I certainly have been a bit remiss in not adding what all has been happening during that time. Oh well it will just have to wait until another time I guess.  Most of my friends do know so it would be nothing new to them.

What is new we are having an addition put onto our home.  The extension will be an added 12 feet on the back of the house which will give us 2 bedrooms and a full bathroom in the basement, the present kitchen and dining room will become the kitchen and the added space over the 'new' basement will be the dining room and possibly a sitting area as well.

What brought all of this on was when Heather and the family moved back to Canada they were looking to buy a house in our neighbourhood.  After looking around for a couple of months they broached the question to Wendy; "What do you think of the idea that we pay for an extension to the house and we all lived together?"  Wendy then informed me of the idea and after a short discussion we all decided that it may be a good opportunity for not only but also for us.  They will have a home to live in at less cost and we will have someone in the home to look after us as we age.  So far it has been working out and the building has finally started.

The first thing that came down was the deck.  Harath and I dismantled it board by board and used them for making a raised beds at the allotment garden.  Then in May the garage came down and the hole for the basement was dug.  Now we have the concrete footings in and the forms for the basement walls which will be poured concrete.  I wonder what the next set will be?

The month of May was very cool and the wettest on record.  Needless to say I was a little late getting the plants into the allotment garden.  To top off the bad weather I didn't get my seeds started till the middle of April so they were about a month behind plus less than 50% of the tomato seeds sprouted, as well as some of the other seeds.  Because of that I have not been a happy gardener.  However, everything is now planted in the allotment.  Although, because of the amount of rain and poor drainage a few of the seedlings were drowned but what has survived  seems to be doing well.  A little slow because of the coolness but doing as well as can be expected.

Because of the work in the back yard with the extension the back vegetable garden is not only not accessible but I transplanted quite a few of the flowers and roses that we wanted to save into that garden.  Most of them did survive the winter and once the mound of dirt has been removed I will be able take a good look and see what is growing well.
