Well it was either bound to happen or not to last very long.  Our rain free days came to a crashing end about 4am this morning.  Thunder storm and heavy rain for about an hour and then rain for at least another hour.  I will have to go and check and see what damage this has done to my allotment garden.  No doubt more flooding in the low areas.  I have some ideas of how to rectify that but not until late this autumn or next spring.

The wood for the garage was delivered at 8am this morning and construction is to start on Monday.  Hopefully it will go up lickity-split so we can move everything that is being stored in the back yard into it.  The 'girls' have also been packing up items from the basement which will have to be moved into the garage as well.  Once construction starts there is going to be quite a mess and several walls in the basement are also being removed to expand the 'living' part.

The rest of the week does not look much like summer.

Getting Caught Up - Again

It has been another lengthy time since my last entry and I had better start on this one before I forget what all happened over the Canada Day Weekend.  The Ottawa Hash House Harriers had a full schedule of events planned for the entire weekend and Wendy and I took advantage of the Friday to Sunday events as well as the usual Monday night run.  We skipped the Thursday night ‘Bad Boys’ Run’ because I am a little old to be a boy and we have not been bad!

Because I am still in recovery mode and not back into a full running regime I, like Wendy, just decided to walk the events.  I do have to get back into my running again because I am signed up for the Army 5K Race in September and am being urged to also do the North Gower 5K run at the end of September.

Also work in the allotment garden is taking up an hour or so every day.  The poor garden is not in very good shape and it is all because of the amount of rain that we had in the months of May and June.   May had a total of 177.6 mm or rain and June 130 mm.  The May average rainfall is 81 mm and June 91 mm.  As you can see there was quite a difference between the amount this year and the yearly average.  Consequently many of my plants were drowned out and quite a few seeds never even sprouted.  The ones that are growing do not seem to be doing all that well because the ground is still saturated.  Hopefully we will have a few more days of bright, warm,  sunny weather to dry things out and encourage some more growth.

The major home renovation project is moving along more or less on schedule now.  It was delayed in starting because of the wet weather in the early spring as well as some confusion at City Hall.  It appears as if someone there confused Chapman Blvd with Chapman Mills and sent the site plans to Rideau Valley Conservation Area for a review.  Chapman Mills is in a flood plane while Chapman Blvd is well above and further away from any danger of the Rideau River ever reaching us.  Once things were straightened out work has been progressing on a daily basis.  Once all the outside work has been completed I will post pictures of the progress and then again once the inside work has been finished.

I had better get started on the past weekends events:
